1/ The General weather patterns in Vietnam in November
In November, northern Vietnam has mostly windy weather with pleasant, chilly or cold temperatures. There are days with mild sunshine or clouds ; this is fog or mist in the mountain in the early morning or late afternoon.
There may be one or two tropical depressions and/or typhoons in November which are more likely to have impact on the Central Region of Vietnam.
In the Central Coast of Vietnam, November is often the high rainy season. The rain tends to be heavier and longer-lasting. In case a tropical depression or typhoon makes landfall in the region, several places are to be flooded for a few days. Part of the Central Highlands is to have heavy rain if the Central Coast has a typhoon/tropical depression.
In November, the Northeasterly Wind blows in the North and in the Central Coast of Vietnam. In the latter region, the wind causes long-lasting rain.
The Central Highlands and South of Vietnam are to have smaller rainfalls in November. The rain tend to be lighter. In some year, these two regions start having weather pattern of the dry season. The temperatures range from pleasant to chilly, cold in the Central Highlands, pleasant in southern Vietnam.
It may happen in some year that the Central Highlands still have heavy rain in November which causes high river water levels in part of southern Vietnam : Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc.

- The Northeasterly Wind causes dry weather and cool or cold temperatures in northern Vietnam, rainy weather in the Central Coast of Vietnam, dry weather with pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam.
There may be rain in the North when a spell of the Northeasterly Wind first hit.
- In November, the Southwesterly Wind starts getting less active and the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam tend to have more influence from the Northeasterly Wind which causes dry weather and pleasant temperatures.

November is among the best time time for hiking tours or mountain trekking trips in northern Vietnam and in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
Northern Vietnam often enjoys autumnal weather with pleasant temperatures and very dry air (relative humidity of 40-45%). High mountains in the North often offers spectacular clouds and fog which make your photos more of unreal scenes. If you plan to take a hike or trek in the far-northern mountains, it is recommended to bring along warm clothes as it can get real cold on mountain tops.
In some year, it still rains lightly in the Central Highlands at the beginning of November. But the light and short-lived rain should not negatively affect your trekking or hiking tours in this region.

The the middle of the first week of November 2024, northern Vietnam received a strong spell of the Northeasterly Wind which caused a drop in temperatures across the region and the weather pattern in northern Vietnam shifts into the winter.
Due to the strong Northeasterly Wind, the Central Coast had heavy rain, and the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam had dry weather.
Regional weather at the beginning of the first week of November 2024 was as follows :
- Northeast (Halong Bay, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang...): sun, clouds, rain, 19-31/17-24oC;
- Northwest : sun, clouds, 21-31/18-25oC in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai , Lao Cai ; sun, clouds, some isolated rain, 17-30/16-24oC in Son La,, Dien Bien, 16-28/21oC in Lai Chau ;
- Lowlands in Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Bac Ninh...) : sun, clouds, some rain, 19-31/26oC ;
- North of the Central Coast (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh): sun, clouds, rain, 21-29/19-25oC ;
