Geography

The capital town of the province is Ha Tinh Town, 350km south of Hanoi, 50km south of Vinh City (Nghe An Province) and 150km north of Dong Hoi Town (Quang Binh Province).

Ha Tinh Province is flanked by the East Vietnam Sea to the east with several beaches, and by the Truong Son Mountain Range to the west with evergreen forests. Ha Tinh has 80% of of the terrain hilly and mountainous to the west, small valleys in the middle and sandy coastline to the east. There are several rivers but the terrain is quite steep from the west to the east, hence prone to floods and flash floods in the rainy season.

Ha Tinh is off the tourist track, though the province has serene countryside, some untouched national parks and pristine beaches like Thien Cam, Thach Hai and Xuan Thanh.

1/ The beaches

- Thien Cam Beach Thien Cam Beach is a long and wide sandy beach that is located in the Cam Xuyen District of Ha Tinh Province, 20km southeast of Ha Tinh City. The beach is bounded by the Thien Cam Mountain and the Dau Voi Mountain which make the landscape just more idyllic. It is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing. The beach is also known for its beautiful sunsets. The Thien Cam is overcrowded in the summer (April-August) and empty during the rainy season and the winter months (September-February). The best time to have beach holidays at Thien Cam is in the dry season and when the Vietnamese do not travel much: February-March.

2/ Vu Quang National Park

3/ Ke Go Reservoir and Ke Go Nature Reserve

Ke Go Reservoir is a beautiful freshwater lake of 30km in length that is located in Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh and Huong Son Districts, 25km southwest of Ha Tinh City. The lake is surrounded by lush green hills and is a popular spot for swimming, boating, and fishing. There are also several small islands on the lake that make the landscape more captivating. Ke Go Nature Reserve includes the Ke Go Reservoir and the system of forest and mountains around with total area of over 36,000 hectares. For those coming from overseas, you’ll need to fly to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, which is 350km north of Ha Tinh, about a 6-hour drive to Ha Tinh Province. Alternatively, there are several daily train and bus between Hanoi and Ha Tinh City.
