Hai Duong Province is located to the east of the Red River Delta. Hai Duong is also adjacent to the coastal provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and Thai Binh. Transport is convenient between Hai Duong and other provinces in northern Vietnam and the road system in the province is excellent nowadays.

Geography

There are two big river systems which flow through Hai Duong: The Red River System and the Thai Binh River System. Hai Duong terrain includes mostly deltas of these two rivers, hence most flat terrain. But there is the last stretch of the Yen Tu Mountain Range to the northeast of the province at Con Son Kiep Bac and only in this area and to a much lesser degree in Kinh Mon (to the east of the province) that mountains are found in Hai Duong.

The capital of the province is Hai Duong City, 80km southeast of Hanoi. Nowadays Hai Duong is a modern province with several industrial parks. Hai Duong City, the capital of the province, is a modern city with a wide range of services for both leisure travelers and business travelers.

What To See, Tourist Attractions In Hai Duong

1/ Con Son-Kiep Bac

These two tourist attractions are 7km afar. Con Son Temple is dedicated to Nguyen Trai (15th century ) at the Con Son Mountain which offers lovely relaxing experience and good hiking experience for those who love more active activities. 
And Kiep Bac is a temple dedicated to Tran Hung Dao, a famed 13th century hero in Vietnam. The Kiep Bac Temple is in the valley of the Dragon Mountain facing the Thuong River (or Luc Dau – Six-branched River).

2/ An Phu, Kinh Chu Temples, Nham Duong Pagoda in Kinh Mon

The An Phu Temple was built in the 13th century and is dedicated to An Sinh Vuong Tran Lieu – father of General Tran Hung Dao. The temple is on the highest peak of the An Phu Mountain Range.

Kinh Chu Temple is a cave temple dedicated to Kings Ly Than Tong and Ly Chieu Hoang.

Nham Duong Pagoda is a big pagoda from the 13-14th centuries and expanded in the 15th century. The pagoda has a nice landscape with mountain in the back.

3/ Giam Pagoda

The pagoda was from 1336. At the pagoda a Cuu Pham Lien Hoa (Buddhist Tower of 9 Tiers), which is built of iron wood of 8m high and 4 ton weight, is still well preserved.

4/ Duoi Temple

The temple was built in the 11th century and is dedicated to Nguyen Phi Y Lan Queen.

5/ Thanh Mai Pagoda (Chi Linh)

The pagoda is in a forest of maple trees of 100 hectares which turn into beautiful colors in autumn. The pagoda was from the 13th century.

6/ Phuong Hoang Mountain – Phoenix Mountain

The mountain is where tomb of Chu Van An, a great teacher and once headmaster of the Quoc Tu Giam University, is located. The mountain is covered in trees and offer relaxing experience.

7/ Chu Dau Pottery Village (Nam Sach District)

This is a traditional craft village that thrived in the period from the 14th to the 17th century. The ceramics of Chu Dau had certain market overseas. Visitors to Chu Dau can watch the artisans at work and learn about the history of the village. They can also try their hand at making pottery and take home their own creations. Apart from ceramics, the village also make sedge sleeping mats.

8/ Dong Giao Wood Sculpture Village (Luong Dien Commune, Cam Giang)

The village is 20km west of Hai Duong City with a history of 300 years.

9/ Thanh Hai Water Puppetry Village

The village performs water puppet right in the village pond.

10/ Chi Lang Island Stork Sanctuary

The bird sanctuary is in Nam Chi Lang, Thanh Mien District with 31,000 hectares. There are some 17,000 storks inhabiting here.

11/ Chi Linh Golf Course

This is a world-class golf course that is located in the middle of a beautiful natural landscape. It is a great place to relax and enjoy a round of golf.

Where To Stay, Hotels

There is a a wide array of accommodation in Hai Duong City from cheap guesthouses, mid range hotels and luxury hotels. Most hotels are in Hai Duong City but there are small guesthouses in the countryside too.

How To Get To Hai Duong

1/ By rail

There are daily commuter trains between Hanoi and Hai Phong which stops at Hai Duong. The train journeys take 1 hour each way.

2/ By road

To get to Hai Duong province, you can take a bus or taxi from Hanoi, which is about 80 kilometers away. There are several bus commuters between Hanoi – Hai Duong – Hai Phong. The roads are excellent including two expressways: Highway 5 and New Highway 5.

3/ By boat

Hai Duong is by the Red River and it is convenient to travel by boat or take boat tours to Hai Duong from Hanoi. Several major century-old cultural sites are by the Red River which can be reached conveniently by boat from Hanoi.
