Ha Nam Province is a small province located in the Red River Delta in Northern Vietnam. Although it may not be as well-known as some of the other destinations in the country, Ha Nam is a charming and off-the-beaten-path place to explore. You can find here an in-depth travel guide to help you plan your trip to Ha Nam.
Though a low-key travel destination, but Ha Nam is famous for its ancient villages and its century-old Buddhist pagodas. Ha Nam has long gone into Vietnamese famed literary works and old cinematographic works such as “Village of Vu Dai”, “Chi Pheo”…
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Ha Nam Province is from October to April, which is the dry season in Northern Vietnam. During this time, the weather is cool and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. The summer months from May to August and early September can be hot and humid, with temperatures reaching up to above 35°C.
Things to do, Tourist Attractions
The natural landscape of the province is similar to Ninh Binh: karst outcrops amid green rice paddies. And the villages are quite typical of old villages in northern Vietnam.
1/ Tam Chuc Pagoda
This is one of the largest pagodas in Vietnam and is located by a picturesque lake and backed by a scenic mountain range. The pagoda is home to many Buddhist monks and is a popular destination for pilgrims.
It is worth noting that the pagoda now was built recently and it is owned and run by a private business. The costs for visiting the pagoda are quite high.
2/ Ba Danh Pagoda
This pagoda is a very old pagoda from the 7th century C.E, located in the village of Ba Danh, Ngoc Son Commune, Kim Bang District. And it has been famous for the beautiful architecture and intricate carvings as well as the least visited pagoda in Vietnam!
The pagoda is 7km southwest of Phu Ly City. The pagoda has the scenic Day River in the front and there are huge gardens surrounding the pagoda. This is certainly among the pagodas in Vietnam with the most beautiful natural settings!
