Birding Vietnam is a 15-day bird-watching tour through the most popular birding spots in Vietnam in the South, the Central Highlands, the Central Region and the North.
Vietnam Birding Tour Overview
The best time to do the trip is from January through April. Accommodations in Saigon, Da Lat and Hanoi are at 3* hotels, at the national parks, only basic accommodations are available.
Apart from bird-watching spots, we have included a luxury cruise on Halong Bay on a traditional wooden junk with overnight stay on board at the end of your trip. If you wish to visit more destinations or have more activities on the tour, please discuss with our travel specialist before booking.
Notes on entrance fees to private bird hides:
- Please kindly know that on all our birding or birdwatching tours, fees to private bird hides are not included, the fees to the national parks are included.
- The fee/bird hide ranges from USD22/person to USD120/person, a surcharge for a solo traveller group may apply.

Detailed itinerary
Day1 Arrive Ho Chi Minh City (no meal)
On arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, you are welcomed by our staff.
Overnight in Saigon.
Day2 Ho Chi Minh City - Nam Cat Tien National Park (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Have 3-hour road transfer to Cat Tien National Park. The park is extremely rich in biopersity with over 351 species of birds. The habitats of Cat Tien include evergreen and semi-evergreen lowland forests, grasslands, wetlands. Endangered birds to be found here include White-winged Duck, White-shouldered Ibis, Germains Peacock-Pheasant, Green Peafowl and the very elusive Orange-necked Partridge. The afternoon is for birdwatching along the path near the park headquarters.

Day3 Nam Cat Tien (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Today is for birding at the Bird Lake in Cat Tien. Species to look for today include Green Peafowl, Germain's Peacock-Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Scaly-breasted Partridge, Bar-bellied Pitta, Grey-faced Tit-Babbler, Green Imperial Pigeon and Mountain Hawk-Eagle.
Overnight at Cat Tien National Park.
Day4 Nam Cat Tien (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
We visit the Crocodile Lake in Cat Tien. Species to expect include bronze-winged Jacana, Lesser Adjutant and Purple Heron, Red, Black and Banded Broadbill, Orange-breasted Trogon and Pale-headed Woodpecker.
Overnight at Cat Tien National Park.
Day5 Nam Cat Tien – Da Lat (B/L)
Breakfast at the hotel.
We have time for birding along the trail near the park headquarters in the morning and road trip to Da Lat in the afternoon.

Day6 Da Lat (B/L)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Our birding today is at Mount Lang Biang outside of the city. The main species to be found today include Silver Pheasant, Indochinese Cuckooshrike, Rufous-capped Babbler, Yellow-billed Nuthatch and Mugimaki Flycatcher. This is also the place to see two of Vietnam's endemics, the Collared Laughingthrush and the Vietnamese Greenfinch.

Day7 Da Lat (B/L)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Today is another full day bird-watching in Da Lat. We’ll travel to the Tuyen Lam Lake. The species to expect today include: Grey-crowned Crocias, Red-vented Barbet, Spotted Forktail, Cutia, Black-hooded, White-cheeked and Collared Laughingthrush.
Overnight in Da Lat.
Day8 Da Lat – Da Nang (VN 1954: 0810-0930) - Bach Ma National Park (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
We take a flight to Da Nang and have a road transfer to Bach Ma National Park in the Central Region of Vietnam.
The afternoon is for birding around the guesthouse.

Day9 Bach Ma (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
The ninth day is for a birding tour of Bach Ma. Over 330 species of bird have been recorded at the park which include the endemic Annam Partridge, the Crested Argus, Coral-billed Ground-Cuckoo, Blyth's Kingfisher and the Ratchet-tailed Treepie.
Overnight at Bach Ma National Park.
Day10 Bach Ma National Park – Da Nang – Hanoi (VN 1514: 1305-1415) - Cuc Phuong National Park (B/-/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Take a flight to Hanoi and road transfer to Cuc Phuong National Park where there are still untouched primeval forests.
The afternoon is for birding near the national park’s headquarters.

Day11 Cuc Phuong (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
The eleventh day is for birding at Cuc Phuong. The key bird species here include Grey Peacock-Pheasant, Brown Hornbill, Bar-bellied, Blue-rumped and Eared Pitta, White-winged Magpie, Sultan Tit, Red-Vented Barbet, Limestone Wren-Babbler, Fujian Niltava and Pied Falconet.
Overnight at Cuc Phuong National Park.
Day12 Cuc Phuong – Halong Bay Junk Cruise (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Transferred to Halong Bay in the early morning for a luxury cruise on the Dragons’ Bay. Visit an amazing cave in the afternoon.
Overnight on board the junk on Halong Bay.
Day13 Halong Bay – Hanoi (B/L)
Breakfast on board.
Visit a secret lagoon by rowing boat.
Further cruise on Halong Bay.
Lunch at a restaurant by the pier.
Transferred to Hanoi in the afternoon.
Overnight in Hanoi.
Day14 Hanoi at leisure (B)
Breakfast at the hotel.
You have full day at leisure in Hanoi.
