February is spring in Northern Vietnam, is the beginning of the dry season with pleasant temperatures in the Central Coast, is the the dry season in the Central Highlands, and in Southern Vietnam.
The North of Vietnam generally enjoys pleasant temperatures mostly, with high moiture in the air and/or light rain sometimes in February. The Central Coast of Vietnam has mostly pleasant temperatures with some cloudy days.
The Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam are in the dry season. The temperatures in the Central Highlands are pleasant mostly, while those in Southern Vietnam can range from pleasant to warm.
General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in February
The Northeasterly Wind is the prevalent wind which affects all of Vietnam’s sea areas and most of Vietnam’s inland regions in February.
All of the North of Vietnam is to have prevalent Northeasterly Wind :
- If the wind blows along the coast before hitting northern Vietnam, then there may be drizzle in Northern Vietnam with cool temperatures ;
- If the rain blows mostly through the continent, which is usually the case, then it is dry weather with mild sunshine in the North ; the mountainous regions turn chilly.
In February, the Northeasterly Monsoon often blows more inland from the sea at the end of each spell, hence moist air and fog in the lowland of the North for a few days. The temperatures are mostly pleasant in the North in February.
The Northeasterly Wind does not cause rain in the Central Coast of Vietnam due to the wind direction and the terrain. The temperatures in the region Central Coast are mostly pleasant. While it may be cloudy in the North and Mid of the Central Coast, it is often sunny in the South of the Central Coast.

1/ Hiking Tours, Mountain Trekking Tours
February is generally a very good time for adventure tours in Northern Vietnam given that the temperatures are mostly pleasant, and it is dry most of the time in February in the far northern regions of the country.
Those who travel in the lowland of Northern Vietnam may experience some drizzle which may last for a couple of days each time a new spell of the Northeasterly Wind arrives. It may get foggy and the air may be with high humidity in the North in February.
Those embark on mountain trekking tours are to be awarded with beautiful clouds on high mountain peaks.
February is a fabulous time for hiking tours in the Central Highlands given it is the dry season here. Expect mild sunshine and excellent temperatures of 20-30oC most of the month.
2/ Adventure Tours
Northern Vietnam is a great place for general adventure tours in February given dry weather mostly and pleasant temperatures always.
All places in the Central Coast of Vietnam are to enjoy dry weather with pleasant temperatures for all month in February.
In the Central Highlands and in Southern Vietnam, it is among the best times of the year for adventure tours with mostly dry weather, mild sunshine and pleasant temperatures. The temperatures in cities in Southern Vietnam may be slightly warm at mid day at times. Those who take adventures in the Mekong Delta are to have a fabulous time.
3/ Birding Trips and Bird Watching Tours
February is still the migration time that most migratory bird species have been present in national parks and nature reserves in Vietnam, and bird parks in the country are vivid with wildlife. This is among the best times for birding in Vietnam.
Birding sites in Vietnam in February :
- Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Binh) : : resident birds and migratory bird species.
- Van Long Nature Reserve (Ninh Binh): storks and water fowls.
- Xuan Thuy National Park (Nam Dinh) : storks, shore birds, migratory bird species.
- Bach Ma National Park (Thua Thien – Hue) : This is among the region with the top annual rainfalls in Vietnam and it is about the end of the rainy season: AdventureGreen do not organize trips be it eco tours or bird tours to Bach Ma National Park in February due to unpredictable weather patterns.
- Da Lat, Bidoup Nui Ba National Park, Deo Nui Sam at Di Linh (Lam Dong, Central Highlands) : Birding at Da Lat and other sites in Lam Dong Province is a great experience in February.
- Cat Tien National Park (Dong Nai, Southern Vietnam) : February is a great time for birdwatching at Cat Tien National Park.

Generally speaking, families should have a good time traveling in Vietnam in February. Your family may like to take a family adventure in the far north, or a sightseeing family holiday in the lowland of the North, or a family beach vacation in the South of the Central Coast and Southern Vietnam... , then you are to have a wonderful time.
5/ Island Holidays
The Northeasterly Wind causes rough sea all over Vietnam in February. Though you may have lovely dry weather with perfect temperatures, but the sea is quite rough for sea exploration tours, boat trips, snorkeling trips, scuba diving tours... If you accept these facts, then you can have good time on the islands : Co To Island and Quan Lan Island (Quang Ninh Province), Cat Ba Island (Hai Phong), Con Dao Islands (Ba Ria-Vung Tau), Phu Quy Island in Binh Thuan , Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang).
6/ Beach Vacations
In Northern Vietnam, Sam Son Beach or the beaches on islands in Northern Vietnam have rough sea mostly.
And those beaches in the South of the Central Coast have cloudy or sunny weather mostly with pleasant temperatures.
If you travel to Southern Vietnam then you may try Vung Tau Beach, Long Hai Beach and Ho Tram Beach (all in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province). You can have pleasant temperatures mostly with beautifully bright sunshine.

First week of February, 2024
The first week of February 2024 found the North of Vietnam with foggy days and moist air which lasted for 4-6 days at the beginning of the month. The other regions of Vietnam mostly enjoyed sunny weather with pleasant temperatures.
There were days that cities in Southern Vietnam got warm at mid day.
Regional weather at the beginning of the first week of February 2024 was as follows :
- Northeast : clouds, isolated rain, 11-23oC;
- Northwest : sun, clouds, some light rain, 15-25oC in Hoa Binh , Yen Bai, Lao Cai ; sun, 12-28oC in Son La, Dien Bien, 11-22oC in Lai Chau ;
- Lowlands in Northern Vietnam : fog, moist air, clouds, isolated rain, 18-27oC ;
- North of the Central Coast : sun, clouds, isolated rain, 21-28oC ;

Second week of February, 2024
In the second week of February 2024 there was a new spell of the cold Northeasterly Wind which caused real cold temperatures and dry weather in Northern Vietnam. There was rain in the Mid of the Central Coast of Vietnam. The temperatures were pleasant in the Central Highlands while hot in the South of Vietnam.
This was very unusual as Northern Vietnam should have been in spring now and the temperatures are usually just pleasant. And that Southern Vietnam underwent hot weather given strong Northeasterly Wind was not usually found in Vietnam either.
Regional weather at the beginning of the second week of February was as follows :
- Northeast : clouds, 7-22oC;
- Northwest : sun, clouds, 9-19oC in Hoa Binh, 12-21oC in Yen Bai, Lao Cai ; sun, clouds, some isolated rain, 8-22oC in Son La, Lai Chau, 8-24oC in Dien Bien ;
- Lowlands in Northern Vietnam : sun, clouds, 11-21oC ;
- North of the Central Coast : sun, clouds, some rain, 12-21oC ;
- Mid Central Coast to the north of Hai Van : some clouds, rain, 17-22oC ;
- Mid Central Coast to the south of Hai Van (Da Nang to Quang Ngai) : sun, clouds, rain, 19-26oC ;

Third week of February, 2024
In the third week of February 2024, there was a weak spell of Northeasterly Wind which caused slight rain in Northern Vietnam and slight drop in temperatures in this region. The Central Coast & the Central Highlands had lovely weather with sunshine and pleasant temperatures.
Southern Vietnam had warm and hot temperatures which is earlier than normal.
The regional weather was as follows:

- Northwest : sun, clouds, some rain, 13-30oC in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai , Lao Cai ; sun, clouds, 13-21oC Son La and Lai Chau ; mostly rain in Dien Bien, 13-23oC in Son La, Dien Bien, 12-21oC in Lai Chau ;
- Lowlands in Northern Vietnam : sun, clouds, some light rain, 16-30oC ;
- North of the Central Coast : sun, clouds, some isolated rain, 18-30oC ;
- Mid Central Coast to the north of Hai Van : mostly sun and clouds, 20-30oC ;
- Mid Central Coast to the south of Hai Van : sun, clouds, 21-30oC ;
- South Central Coast (Quy Nhon – Nha Trang): sun or clouds, 22-29oC ;
- South Central Coast ( Phan Rang-Thap Cham to Phan Thiet : sun, clouds, 22-31oC ;

Fourth week and last days of February, 2024
At the beginning of the fourth week and last days of February 2024, the North received successive spells of the cold Northeasterly Wind which caused rain across the region for 4 days (21 to 25-February).
The Central Coast continued to have mostly sun and clouds with lovely temperatures. So do the Central Highlands.
Southern Vietnam continued to have hot temperatures. The hot weather seemed to come earlier than usual.

There was a spell of the cold Northeasterly Wind to Northern Vietnam at the end of the month bringing cold and dry weather to the region.
18-Mar Northern Vietnam received a spell of the Northeasterly Wind which caused brief drizzle putting an end to the moist air indoors. The Central Coast had lovely dry weather with pleasant temperatures. Most of Central Highlands had nice weather, some places on low altitudes had hot temperatures reaching 36-37oC. Southern Vietnam had dry and hot days with high temperatures of 35-37oC.
