Pterorhinus is a genus of passerine birds in the laughingthrush family Leiothrichidae.
The name of the genus combines the Ancient Greek pteron meaning "feather" with rhinos meaning "nostrils".
Earlier the species of this genus were placed in the genus Garrulax.
1/ Masked laughingthrush (Bò chao, Liếu điếu, Pterorhinus perspicillatus)
2/ Chestnut-capped laughingthrush (Pterorhinus mitratus), also known as the spectacled laughingthrush
3/ White-browed laughingthrush (Bò chiêu, Pterorhinus sannio)
4/ Black-throated laughingthrush (Khướu bạc má, Pterorhinus chinensis)
earlier placed in the genus Garrulax.
5/ Wayanad laughingthrush (Khướu bụng vằn, Pterorhinus delesserti)
The specific epithet was chosen to honour the French naturalist Adolphe Delessert who had collected specimens from near Kotagiri in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
Once placed in Crateropus, Dryonastes or Garrulax, Ianthocincla.
Some resemblance to the rufous-vented laughingthrush (Pterorhinus gularis) of northeastern India which has a yellow throat.
Some older treatments considered lumped delesserti with gularis.
The ranges of delesserti and gularis are widely disjunct but museum specimens can be told apart by the pale lower mandible of delesserti unlike the all dark bill of gularis.
The tail is uniformly coloured and is darker than the back in delesserti while that of gularis is pale with rufous outer tail feathers.
The chin is yellow in gularis while white in delesserti.
6/ White-cheeked laughingthrush (Khướu đầu xám, Pterorhinus vassali)
formerly placed in the genus Garrulax.
7/ White-throated laughingthrush (Khướu họng vàng, Pterorhinus albogularis)
formerly placed in the genus Garrulax.
8/ Greater necklaced laughingthrush (Pterorhinus pectoralis)
formerly placed in the genus Garrulax.
