 formerly placed in the genus Garrulax.

The greater necklaced laughingthrush (Pterorhinus pectoralis) is a species of passerine bird in the family Leiothrichidae.
The bird is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam.

Leiothrix Leiothrichidae Ancient Greek leios meaning "smooth" and thrix meaning "hair".
The name of the genus combines the Ancient Greek pteron meaning "feather" with rhinos meaning "nostrils".
pectoralis Latin pectoralis of the breast, or pectoral (from Latin pectus breast).
