Tay Ninh Province is 100 km from Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon). Tay Ninh is known to travellers with the eclectic religion of Cao Dai or Caodaism, an indigenous religion in Tay Ninh.
Geography
Tay Ninh is bordered to the north-east by Binh Phuoc Province, to the east by Binh Duong Province, to the south-east by Ho Chi Minh City, to the south by Long An Province, to the west and north-west and north by Cambodia.
The terrain of Tay Ninh is basically flat with some abrupt high mountains: Ba Den (986m), Phung or Phoenix (435m).
Weather and Climate
Tay Ninh has a tropical monsoon climate with two seasons: rainy season from May through November and dry season from December through April. The temperatures are high in the period from March through April and start getting lower from May. The lowest temperatures are found in the period from September through January or early February.
During the rainy season, daily short-lived rain is found in Tay Ninh from May through August. And it is often long-lasting torrential rain from September through October or even into November in some years.
What to See, Things to Do
1/ Cao Dai Holy See
Caodaism is an indigenous religion in Vietnam and the religion originates from the Cao Dai Holy See which is the biggest Cao Dai Temple in the country. The religion philosophy is a combination of elements of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Christianity, and Islam.
The main building of the Cao Dai Holy See is brightly colored which features the symbol of the religion: an eye. There are daily masses held at this temple in the early morning, late afternoon and evening and at mid day. Travelers often visit the temple and observe the mid day session.
2/ Black Lady Mountain (Nui Ba Den)
The Black Lady Mountain, 10km northeast of Tay Ninh City, is the highest mountain in Southern Vietnam (986m). The mountain is part of a complex of three mountain peaks. The other two peaks are:
Phoenix (Phung, 419m) and Heo (Pig, 341m).
The mountain offers hard trekking and mountain climbing tours. Alternatively you can take a trip to the top by cable car. From the top of the mountain, we can have stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
3/ Dau Tieng Reservoir
This is the largest man-made reservoir in Vietnam and provides water for agricultural irrigation. The total reservoir covers an area of 270km2 in Tay Ninh, Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc Provinces. The main water source to the reservoir is the Saigon River. The area around the reservoir offers several campsites, picnic sites, fishing spots… Visitors can take a boat tour of the lake, go fishing, or simply relax by the water.
4/ Ma Thien Lanh Valley
The valley is amid the mountains of the Ba Den Complex which offers hiking tours, picnic sites, campsites. From the valley there is a hard trekking trail to the top of the Ba Den Mountain.
5/ Lo Go Xa Mat National Park
The national park is in Tan Bien District, 40km northwest of Tay Ninh City. The total area of the national park is over 30,000 hectares right on the border with Cambodia. The terrain of the national park is mostly flat, slightly higher to the northwest and lower to the south and southeast.
The water supplies to the national park include: Vam Co Dong River, Da Ha – Xa Mat River, rain water, underground water...

Travel and Tours
From Saigon, you can day-trip to Tay Ninh Cao Dai Temple which can be combined with a trip to the tunnels of Cu Chi. Some travellers would have a trip to Cu Chi, Tay Ninh, then continue onto Phnom Penh (Cambodia) in one day.
How to get there
Tay Ninh is 100km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City via a very good road. The road even travels through the Cambodian border to Phnom Penh. It is possible to travel from Saigon to Phnom Penh within 1 day via Moc Bai – Ba Vet border checkpoint
