Bac Sum Pass, which is also called Bac Sum Gradient, is on Route 4C in Minh Tan Commune, Vi Xuyen District, Ha Giang Province. The mountain pass connects travel between Ha Giang City, Vi Xuyen District, Quan Ba District.

Travel Guide to the Bac Sum Pass, Ha Giang

The name Bac Sum is from the name of the village located at the base of the pass. We travel from Hanoi to the Dong Van Plateau via Ha Giang City and Quan Ba, then we have to pass through Bac Sum Gradient.

The Bac Sum Pass is where the terrain lifts up from the lower terrain of Vi Xuyen District to the higher terrain of the Dong Van Plateau (starting from Quan Ba District) which is 1,400-1,600m above sea level. The abrupt change of altitude can be felt easily as we move our way uphill. The views get more spectacular and there are several photo stops on the way that we can adore the sublime nature below including mountains peaks, villages, roads...

How to get there

From Hanoi we travel to Ha Giang via Route 2. Continue on Route 4C onto Vi Xuyen District and we will be on the Bac Sum Gradient in no time as the road goes up and the scenery gets more spectacular!
