    The Amur stonechat or Stejneger's stonechat (Saxicola stejnegeri) is a species of stonechat native to eastern Asia. 

    Muscicapidae: Muscicapa comes from the Latin musca meaning a fly, and capere to catch.
    Saxicola in Latin: saxum, rock + incola, dwelling in. 
    The Latin binomial commemorates the Norwegian ornithologist Leonhard Hess Stejneger.
    Amur: a river in NE Asia, rising in N Mongolia as the Argun and flowing southeast, then northeast to the Sea of Okhotsk: forms the boundary between Manchuria and Russia.

    Common stonechat is the name used for the Saxicola species Saxicola torquatus of the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae.

     


    The stonechats or chats, is a genus of 15 species of small passerine birds restricted to the Old World: ground-feeding, strong migratory.
    Saxicola in Latin: saxum, rock + incola, dwelling in. 
    torquatus: Latin torquis (“a twisted neck chain, necklace, collar”), from torqueō (“to turn, twist, bend”), Latin torquatus collared (torques collar).

    The Jerdon's bush chat has an extremely large range and is native to Bangladesh, China, India, Laos, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam.

    The pied bush chat (Saxicola caprata) is a small passerine bird of the flycatcher family Muscicapidae found ranging from West Asia and Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

    caprata: Maria-capra was the name given to the Pied Bushchat by the inhabitants of the Luzon Island.

    The Siberian stonechat or Asian stonechat (Saxicola maurus) is a recently validated species of the Old World flycatcher family (Muscicapidae).
    The bird's breeding range: most of temperate Asia, from Siberia south to the Himalaya and southwest China, and west to eastern Turkey and the Caspian Sea area, far northeast of Europe, mainly in Russia, occasionally as far west as Finland.

    The wintering range: from southern Japan south to Thailand and India, and west to northeast Africa. On migration, small numbers reach as far west as western Europe, and exceptionally as far east as Alaska in North America.
