Brachypteryx is a genus of passerine birds in the family Muscicapidae containing ten species known as shortwings, that occurs in southeast Asia.

The Himalayan shortwing (Brachypteryx cruralis) is a species of chat in the family Muscicapidae.
The bird is found in South-east Asia from the Himalayas to southern China, northwestern Thailand and northern Indochina.

Some consider the Langbiang Lesser Shortwing (Brachypteryx leucophris langbianensis) a subspecies of the Lesser Shortwing.

The genus Brachypteryx from the classical Greek: brakhus mean "short" and pterux meaning "wing".

The lesser shortwing, a species of chat, is now classified in the family Muscicapidae.

White-throated laughingthrush

The white-throated laughingthrush (Pterorhinus albogularis) is a species of passerine bird in the family Leiothrichidae.
The bird is found mainly in the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent, primarily the Himalayas, and some adjoining and disjunct areas: Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet and Vietnam.

Wayanad laughingthrush

Once placed in Crateropus, Dryonastes or Garrulax, Ianthocincla.

The Wayanad laughingthrush (Pterorhinus delesserti) is a species of laughingthrush in the family Leiothrichidae. It is endemic to the Western Ghats south of Goa in India.

Some resemblance to the rufous-vented laughingthrush (Pterorhinus gularis) of northeastern India which has a yellow throat. 
Some older treatments considered lumped delesserti with gularis.

The ranges of delesserti and gularis are widely disjunct but museum specimens can be told apart by the pale lower mandible of delesserti unlike the all dark bill of gularis. 
The tail is uniformly coloured and is darker than the back in delesserti while that of gularis is pale with rufous outer tail feathers. 
The chin is yellow in gularis while white in delesserti.

The bird is found in Sumatra (Indonesia) and the Thai-Malay Peninsula.

The name of the genus combines the Ancient Greek pteron meaning "feather" with rhinos meaning "nostrils".
