Loriculus, or hanging parrots, is a genus of small parrots in the family Psittaculidae.
The name is a diminutive of the genus Lorius.

Hanging parrots are birds in the genus Loriculus, a group of small parrots from tropical southern Asia, of the family Psittaculidae.

Psittaculidae, Psittacula: a diminutive of the Latin word psittacus meaning "parrot".
The name Loriculus is a diminutive of the genus Lorius which originates from "lory" which comes from the Malay lūri, a name used for a number of species of colourful parrots.
