Erythrogenys is a genus of scimitar babblers, jungle birds with long downcurved bills.

The large scimitar babbler (Erythrogenys hypoleucos) is a species of bird in the family Timaliidae.

Erythro: eruthros meaning "red"
genys: Latin genus (“birth, origin, a race, sort, kind”) from the root gen- in Latin gignō (“to beget, produce”). 
The Latinized Greek hypoleucos, with the correct “-os” ending as first published by Gould, means white below New Latin, from Ancient Greek ὑπόλευκος (hupóleukos, “whitish underneath”).
hypo: From Ancient Greek ὑπο- (hupo-), combining form of ὑπό (hupó, “under”).
