The black-winged kite (Elanus caeruleus), also known as the black-shouldered kite, is a small diurnal bird of prey in the family Accipitridae.

The name Elanus is from the Ancient Greek elanos for a "kite".

L'Élanion blac (Elanus caeruleus), souvent appelé Élanion blanc, est une espèce de petits rapaces appartenant à la famille des Accipitridae.
L'Élanion blac vit essentiellement en Afrique subsaharienne et en Asie tropicale.

Le nom Elanus vient du grec ancien elanos pour "milan".
Latin caeruleus : en bleu foncé, bleu marine, probablement d'origine caelum, "ciel";
L'Épithète spécifique blac peut-être vient de la traduction mauvaise du mot black en anglais, ou blanc en francais...
