The stork-billed kingfisher (Pelargopsis capensis), is a tree kingfisher which is widely but sparsely distributed in the tropical Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, from India to Indonesia.

Alcedinidae: From Alcedo Latin alcedo kingfisher.
Pelargopsis: Greek pelargos stork; opsis appearance.
