The fork-tailed sunbird (Aethopyga christinae) is a bird in the family Nectariniidae.

Nectariniidae: New Latin, from Nectarinia, type genus + -idae.
The name genus combines the Ancient Greek aithos meaning "fire" or "burning heat" with puge meaning "rump".
