Tachyspiza is a genus containing goshawks and sparrowhawk in the family Accipitridae. The species were formerly placed in the genus Accipiter.

accipitrinus Latin accipitrinus hawk-like (accipiter: hawk).
The name Tachyspiza: combination of the Ancient Greek takhus meaning "fast" with spizias meaning "hawk".
