The Siberian thrush (Geokichla sibirica) is a member of the thrush family, Turdidae, of the family Passeriformes.
Compare:
- Siberian thrush (Geokichla sibirica): female scaly breast with more white background and with white brow.
- Dark-sided Thrush (Zoothera marginata): scaly breast with more dark-brown background and without white brow. Bill is longer than the Siberian Thrush and more down-curved.
Turdidae derives from the Latin word turdus, meaning thrush.
The genus name Geokichla combines the Ancient Greek geō- meaning "ground-" with kikhlē meaning "thrush.
