The green-tailed sunbird (Aethopyga nipalensis) or Nepal yellow-backed sunbird is a species of bird in the family Nectariniidae.
The bird is found in Nepal and the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent, stretching eastwards into parts of Southeast Asia.
In Vietnam, the Green-tailed sunbird lives in the Central Highlands.
Nectariniidae: New Latin, from Nectarinia, type genus + -idae.
Latin nectar, nectaris nectar (the drink of the gods) ( Greek nektar, nektaros nectar).
Aethopyga combines the Ancient Greek aithos meaning "fire" or "burning heat" with puge meaning "rump".
