The species in this genus were previously placed in the genus Dendrocopos.

The grey-capped pygmy woodpecker (Yungipicus canicapillus) is an Asian bird species of the woodpecker family (Picidae).
The bird's range extends from the Himalayas and Manchuria to Southeast Asia.

- Black-eyestriped;
- Spotted-backed: white spots on the black back;

Yungipicus: from the Ancient Greek iunx meaning wryneck; and the Latin picus meaning "woodpecker".
