    The New Latin acridotheres (“locust-hunter”) is from Ancient Greek: akridos meaning locust, and theras meaning hunter.

    The specific epithet cristatella is a Latin diminutive of cristatus meaning "crested" or "plumed".

    The bird distribution zone spans Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, peninsular Thailand, Indochina, Japan (both mainland Japan and the Ryukyu Islands) and China.
