    Caprimulgus is a large and widespread genus of nightjars, medium-sized nocturnal birds with long pointed wings, short legs and short bills. Caprimulgus is derived from the Latin capra, "nanny goat", and mulgere, "to milk".

    L'Engoulevent jotaka (Caprimulgus jotaka) est une espèce d'oiseaux de la famille des Caprimulgidae, autrefois considéré comme conspécifique avec Caprimulgus indicus.

    Cette espèce d'oiseaux vit en Asie au Pakistan, au nord de l'Inde dans les piedmonts de l'Himalaya, au Bangladesh, en Asie du Sud-Est, au sud de la Chine, au Japon, en Corée et en Sibérie.

    Caprimulgiformes, Caprimulgidae: du latin Caprimulgus Engoulevent (capra chèvre; mulgere traire).
    Le nom latin « caprimulgus » signifie 'suceur de chèvre'.
    Leur nom français vient de l'occitan Engola-vent signifiant littéralement avale-vent en raison de leur réputation de voler le bec ouvert pour avaler leurs proies.
    jotaka , en japonais, se signifie le faucon de la nuit pour l'engoulevent jotaka.
