  • Acridotheres

    Acridotheres is a genus of starlings, the "typical" mynas, which are tropical members of the family Sturnidae.
    The New Latin acridotheres (“locust-hunter”) is from Ancient Greek: akridos meaning locust, and theras meaning hunter.

    1/ Crested myna (Sáo mỏ ngà, Sáo đen, Acridotheres cristatellus), also known as the Chinese starling
    The specific epithet cristatella is a Latin diminutive of cristatus meaning "crested" or "plumed".

    2/ Great myna (Sáo mỏ vàng, Acridotheres grandis), also known as the white-vented myna

    3/ Common myna or Indian myna (Acridotheres tristis), sometimes spelled mynah

    The specific name tristis is Latin for "sad" or "gloomy".

    4/ Burmese myna (Sáo sậu đầu trắng, Acridotheres burmannicus)

    Agropsar is a genus of Asian birds in the family Sturnidae. It is sometimes merged with Sturnus or Sturnia.

    Aplonis is a genus of starlings of the family Sturnidae. The genus name is from Ancient Greek haploos meaning "simple" or "plain" and ornis meaning "bird".

  • Gracula

    Gracula is a genus of mynas, tropical members of the starling family of birds Sturnidae found in southern Asia.
    The genus name is from Latin graculus, an unknown bird sometimes identified as the western jackdaw.

    1/ Common hill myna (Yểng, Nhông, Gracula religiosa), sometimes spelled "mynah", or hill myna or myna bird
     specific name religiosa may allude to the practice of teaching mynas to repeat prayers.

  • Gracupica

    Gracupica is a genus of Asian birds in the family Sturnidae. It is sometimes merged with Sturnus or Sturnia.

    The Sturnidae are named for the genus Sturnus which in Latin means starling.
    The genus name Gracupica combines the Latin graculus meaning "jackdaw" (related to but smaller than crows and ravens) with pica meaning "magpie".

    Formerly placed in the genus Sturnus.
    The specific epithet nigricollis is Latin for "black-necked": niger, meaning "black", and collis, meaning "neck".

    Spodiopsar is a genus of Asian birds in the family Sturnidae.
    The genus name combines the Ancient Greek spodios meaning "ash-coloured" and psar meaning "starling".

    1/ Red-billed starling (Sáo đá đầu trắng, Spodiopsar sericeus)
    The specific epithet sericeus is Medieval Latin meaning "silken" (which is from "silk starling" that had been illustrated by a naturalist)

    2/ White-cheeked starling or grey starling (Sáo đá má trắng, Spodiopsar cineraceus)
    formerly placed in the genus Sturnus.

    Sturnia is a genus of Asian birds in the starling family Sturnidae. It is sometimes merged with Sturnus.
    The genus name is from Latin sturnus meaning "starling".

    1/ Chestnut-tailed starling (Sáo đá đuôi hung, Sturnia malabarica), also called grey-headed starling and grey-headed myna
    formerly placed in the genus Sturnus.

    2/ White-shouldered starling (Sáo đá Trung Quốc, Sturnia sinensis)
    The specific epithet sinensis is Modern Latin for "Chinese".
