Le genre Pycnonotus regroupe 34 espèces de passereaux appartenant à la famille des Pycnonotidae. On les appelle en français bulbuls.

Light-vented bulbul, also called the Chinese bulbul (Bông lau Trung Quốc, Pycnonotus sinensis)

Pycnonotidae vient du grec: puknos "épais, dense" ou "compact, concis" et -nōtos "à dos".
